Based on the children’s book Pete and Pickles by Berkeley Breathed, it’s the story of Hitpig (Jason Sudeikis), a pig bounty hunter who returns runaway animals to their owners. Right off the bat, the title makes no sense; the pig doesn’t kill anyone like a killer. It should probably be called something like PETE THE BOUNTY HUNTER or just PETE AND PICKLES. It’s literally called Hitpig. Along the way, he meets Pickles (Lilly Singh), an elephant who escaped from the cunningly arrogant Leapin. The Tights Master (Rainn Wilson). They form a bond that makes Hitpig question his career and life. This movie is okay. I understand that it wasn’t made with me in mind. The humor is everywhere, sometimes aimed at the kids below, sometimes a little higher. Lots of jokes. The plot moves a mile a minute, sometimes literally, not letting you breathe. All the characters talk fast, although I enjoyed listening to Hannah Gadsby as a sassy koala. The movie looks low budget and I’m honestly surprised it made it to theaters. There are a few good enough scenes about the chosen family. GO! I think it’s a decent movie, but it’s very forgettable and not worth spending money on unless you have a young child with ADHD who loves loud noises and bright colors.
